Pastoral Transition

On October 1, 2020, Davie Street Presbyterian celebrated the call of its pastor, Rev. Dr. Byron A Wade, to the position of General Presbyter, Western North Carolina Presbytery.  During the year that followed, Davie Street welcomed New Hope Presbytery clergy who served as guest ministers and meeting moderators. Rev. Dorothy Killian served as the Interim Pastor from 2021-2023.  In July 2023, Rev. Dr. Vanessa Hawkins began her tenure as the Bridge Interim Pastor.

The transition period offers Davie Street an opportunity to pause, pray, and discern. Through this process, the church reflects on its past, gains insights into where we are, and how to move forward in faith as we listen to where God is calling us.  Members rediscover or discover gifts and talents that can enhance their worship experience as they become more involved in the church’s ministries. As part of the transition, Davie Street Presbyterian completed its Mission Study.  Completion of the Mission Study was the first step in seeking a permanent pastor. Below is a graphic detailing the process of calling a new pastor to Davie Street.  The Mission Study can be accessed here.
